I didn’t get out of the parking lot after being bonded out of jail before I was doing drugs again. I was living in an abandoned house and didn’t have anywhere to go. That was two days before Christmas. By January 3, we decided we couldn’t live like that anymore. It’s been said so many times that a couple couldn’t get sober together. One of us would go to jail or get sober, but the other was still using. We went back and forth like that over and over. We called around and found a place in California that would let us go to rehab together. We completed our rehab and now we’re both working and doing everything we’re supposed to do. We have 14 meetings and classes a week, plus family visitations. We keep a digital calendar, and some of our meetings are over video chat. This wouldn’t be possible without technology, and without church. Church is what binds it all together. If we’re tired or feeling bad, it’s not up for sacrifice. This is a story about a relationship, and how it is possible. I’m not saying it’s not hard, because it’s hard. But we’re a blessed couple.
