What my story really comes down to is, I was a very sick man. I started drinking alcohol at 17 years old. I drank every single day. I got into a lot of trouble, and I’m not proud of that. My family suffered. My way of dealing with problems was to walk away. For four nights, I slept in my truck. I was contemplating suicide. I was very, very, very hungry. I was scared. I was 75 years old and had been an alcoholic all my life. Eventually, I called for help. Since I was contemplating suicide, they put me in a locked facility. I was in a program for 28 days, where I had classes each day of the week. They had doctors, nurses, and psychiatrists all trying to pinpoint how they could help me. When I got out of the program, I didn’t have anywhere to go. I called TEEM and told them my situation. I live in a retirement center today. The veterans program helped me with my deposit, and my utilities, and they put me in touch with Goodwill. Tait got me furniture, dishes, a brand-new coffee pot – I mean, you name it, I got it. Free. All I had to do was open this up in prayer to God and give it all to him. Then they step in and do the rest under God’s love. I’m proud to be here today. I’m 57 days sober, and I couldn’t ask for any better.
