Do you take running water for granted? Based on my life’s journey, I most certainly do not. I wasn’t always chairing meetings at the Kelley Club or guest speaking to alcoholics anonymous. I was 50 years old and I was broke. Dead broke. I had nothing. Not my sobriety. No material possessions. Nothing. By the grace of God, you know what I learned? I learned the power of sobriety and staying clean. I tell people now that the power of sobriety is limitless. My life is a shining example of that truth. After hitting rock bottom at age 50, I now own a home just a few years later. It has the running water I was talking about earlier. I have a great job selling cars and an even better boss that took a chance on me. I’ve served my country fighting in Afghanistan. I’ve won 1st price at the fair for my singing. But none of that compares to living a clean life. A sober life. I’m now in charge and nobody else controls my destiny but me.
